The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 18, 2024, sent to the company Jul 3, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 18, 2024

The product, in the report: Relocatable power tap E196224

Television plugged into a power strip. No other items plugged in and it was not covered by anything. No damage to the plug on the power strip.

Report Update 6/26/24: I submitted a report with photographs of a melted power strip that had only a television plugged in. This is a fire hazard. Had the property owner not been vigilant, this could have resulted in a fire resulting in loss of property and/or life.

The product, in the report: Cyberpower power strip with surge and USB.

Fire hazard and or safety hazard. Cyberpower model p405uc can I es -3(b)/nmb-3(b). Noticed strip power which was used for laptop and similar items was out. Closer investigation found burn marks around outlet on surge arrester power strip. Noticed plug on item previously inserted was damaged as well. Checked other sockets with multiple different plugs/devices and found intermittent contact or poor contact on all. Suspect defect in manufacturing. Checked identical unit found same “loose” outlet safety hazard as plugs don’t always make good contact etc. The strips are only a few months old.

  4. No one hurt

Made Feb 6, 2015, sent to the company Feb 20, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 18, 2015

The product, in the report: Cyber power cp900avr uninterruptible power supply.

The cyber power cp900avr uninterruptible power supply. I have used this unit to protect my pc modem and routed for several years. It worked perfectly until one day it began to beep non stop indicating a fault. I assumed this was due to old worn out batteries as they are lead acid based and do expire with age. However I was astonished and horrified when I removed the old batteries for replacement.

Both batteries had MELTED significantly ! It’s a miracle that nothing caught fire. The case even shows some distortion from the heat !

Upon doing some internet searching I learned that some other consumers have also narrowly avoided tragedy with these units melting completely and had some of their property distorted by leaking sulfuric acid and molten plastic.

How is there no recall on these ? I know they no longer produce this exact model but there still all over sites like eBay and Amazon.
