The product, in the report: APC SurgeArrest Professional surge protector model PRO8T2MP12B
APC surge protector model PRO8T2MP12B appears to have caught fire and a hole melted in the bottom of it. There is some warping on top and black soot on the unit and the tile floor it was sitting on. There was the smell of an electrical fire so we had the fire department come and while looking around I noticed the discolored floor, picked up the surge protector and saw the hole in the bottom. It was no longer hot. If it had been near some thing combustible, our house may have burned down.

The product, in the report: 6 plug power strip surge protector white with green light APC by Schneider
I had just got home and went into my bedroom to set my drink down. I suddenly noticed a flame about 3 inches come up out of one of the outlets on the power strip. Then it started to furiously spark and smoke and more flames. I quickly yanked the cord from the wall then had to try to remove the 3 items plugged into the surge protector. I then took my tiny child outside by the neighbor and came back in to make sure nothing had started back on fire. I’m not exactly sure at what point bit I did obtain an injury to my hand because after my adrenalin wore off I’ve been having a pins and needles pain is the only way to describe it in my hand.

The product, in the report: APC Back-UPS ES 725 computer backup power supply
I have an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) which I recently placed back in service after being stored for a year (though I do not believe that contributes to this issue). I discovered that all the 120v power receptacles on this device have virtually no tension in the contacts for the hot and neutral conductors. In my opinion a device of sufficient current consumption plugged into this UPS could very easily cause the receptacle to overheat and potentially catch fire. An arcing condition caused by these deficient contacts would not trip the device’s built-in circuit breaker, and could potentially damage the connected equipment.
Note that I do not know when the contacts begin to fail because the grounding contacts in the receptacles seem fine. The hazardous condition is masked when a plug with a ground pin is used: it gives the appearance of being secure in the receptacle.
THE CONDITION OF THIS PRODUCT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THE UNSAFE CONDITION IS ALSO NOT OBVIOUS TO USERS. SUCH PRODUCTS WITH THIS CONDITION SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The product, in the report: APC Battery Back-Up with Surge Protection
APC Battery Back-Up Model #: BE350R (Their Website says manufactured 2005) Serial #: AB0536140647.....
05/18/2014 I have 4 located throughout the house. At about 12:30 pm I was sitting in the living room next to another one connected to a laptop. It indicated a brief interruption while at the same time one located in the guest bedroom ‘Sounded Alarm’. The ‘Green’ normal operating light was on. Since the alarm continued I tried to repeatedly turn the unit off. It would not turn off. I began unpluging the devices attached to the Battery Back-Up. Desk Top Computer, printer and light. The Green Light and Alarm continued. At this time I began to see smoke coming from the UNIT. I unplugged the UNIT from the wall receptacle and went to the garage where I removed the battery. I could see into the other enclosed area that there was flame. I then removed the unit outside and sprayed it with water to put out the fire that remained internal. The situation was controlled by the audible alarm and being home. No damage is noted to any other electronics.
In my estimation the UNIT failed and would not shut down manually which resulted in a fire.

The product, in the report: APC SurgeArrest Personal
The APC SurgeArrest Personal Model PER7 Serial Z98100205707 began making weird sounds like static when I would turn it on. Then whenever I would plug in my Cellphone Charger it would do the same thing. I smelled hot electrical wire now and then and just thought it might be my computer. Then NBC’s Today Show announced the Recall on these. I just contacted the Company and they told me to quit using it, throw it away and they filed a claim for me to be sent a replacement. Luckily I saw the Recall on the Today Show or I would not have made the connection and I believe it saved me from being horror story 701.

No one hurt Made Dec 18, 2012, sent to the company Jan 7, 2013, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2013
The product, in the report: APC Surge Arrest Performance surge protector
I turned my iron on which was plugged into a APC surge arrest performance surge protector and it made popping sounds then caught on fire. We were right there so my husband plug the surge protector out of the wall plug and threw it outside. I then put water on the carpet to stop the smoking. The surge protector had a hole burn though to the carpet that had to be cut out. There are also burn marks on the carpet and black smoke all around where the surge protector had been. We were very lucky to had been there or the room would have gone up in flames! The people at the fire department also said had lucky we were.
