  1. No one hurt

Made May 31, 2021, sent to the company Jun 17, 2021, published by CPSC Jul 2, 2021

The product, in the report: Ouef, Inc. Perch Toddler Bed in Birch. Manufactured by Ouef, Inc. To be used exclusively by toddlers through age 6 years. Model Perch Toddler Bed White/Birch 1PTB01

I purchased a toddler bed made of “birch” wood manufactured by Ouef, Inc. and distributed by Fawn & Forest. The bed was delivered on or about May 12, 2021. From the moment I opened the box odors emanated from the wood and packaging materials. This producted is manufactured in Latvia but supposedly is green gold certified with respect to toxity. My eyes teared and my nose was bothered. I could not believe the odors coming from a product that a child is supposed to sleep in. I contacted the company and was told that the odors would disappear over time and I should open windows, etc. While the bed is described as eco-friendly, it has raw wood for the bed slats which I believe is plywood. Plywood is a manufactured wood that uses resins. There are also raw wood supports. This raw wood has an obvious odor if I do not open the windows. The air in the room is very uncomfortable. Even the “Birch” panels which are finished are made of slices of wood that are glued together which means their are resins in that wood as well. It has been three weeks so far of airing out this toddler bed and while the smell is less, it is still there. I bought this bed for my grandson who is four when he will be visiting in July and the bed is in the same room as the bed for my daughter and son and in law. The room air is notably poor when the windows are closed. I don’t know what to do do as the item is non-refundable (it as 450.00) and more importantly the odors are concerning and, at the very least, unpleasant. I’ve ordered wood furniture in the past, and nothing like this has occurred. Lastly, there are no stamps on the furniture indicating it is formaldehyde compliant and meets California requirements. The manufacturer informed me that the product is green gold certified which I find hard to believe as it has notable odors--still after three weeks. This is for a child to sleep on!
