  1. No one hurt

The product, in the report: http://www.amazon.com/Werner-250-Pound-Televator-Universal-Telescoping/dp/B000RVZZ3O Werner AA Series Televator Telescoping Attic Ladders go where other attic ladders simply can’t. Ideal for small openings, closets, and other tight spaces, these ladders are designed for easy one-person installation and can help you quickly and inexpensively gain access to your attic.

8 Foot Werner AA8 Televator Telescoping Attic Ladder, purchased 12/11/2010, installed approximately 2/2011. The latch, supplied by the manufacturer, which is supposed to hold the wood door closed, failed unexpectedly.

When this latch failed, the wood door slammed open under the force of gravity. Thankfully the door did not impact anything, and no damage or injury was caused by the failure.

Had a person been standing in the area of the Werner AA8 attic ladder, the failure of the latch may have caused a severe head injury.
