The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 18, 2012, sent to the company Jun 27, 2012, published by CPSC Jul 12, 2012

The product, in the report: Item info from back of headboard: Home Meriden International Item: 8110-532 Descript: Winter Park 4/6 HB Sku: 605-876-120-502 Purch Order# [REDACTED] Manufacture Date: July 8, 2011

Item info from back of headboard: Home Meriden International Item: 8110-532 Descript: Winter Park 4/6 HB Sku: 605-876-120-502 Purch Order# [REDACTED] Manufacture Date: July 8, 2011

The side support board detached from the headboard. Or to describe it differently the cleat drilled into the headboard pulled out, with the cleat still attached to the sideboard. We had the bed in use for 7 months. Our 4 year old was using the bed.

The larger concern is when I contacted the retailer and told them the basic problem as outlined above... They described it as a common problem when the foot/or headboard is moved/pushed. The bed frame loses its square shape then breaking the bed. This should not be possible by a 40 pound child.

When I tried to replicate this action on my other 2 beds, manufactured by [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], the latter much cheaper bed and in the same price range as the broken Home Meridan bed, neither bed lost it square shape with a GREAT amount of force by me. In fact both beds moved entirely square.

I have also contacted the manufacturer directly by letter, describing the same events. I believe this a design defect as the cleats seem to not hold a square corner.

I can be contacted by phone at [REDACTED]
