The product, in the report: Xander Upholstered Platform Bed King size This platform bed brings warm, coastal style to your sleeping space. Its headboard and cylindrical legs are crafted from kiln-dried rattan wicker and solid wood with a natural wood finish, and its base is wrapped in velvet upholstery for a softer look and feel. This bed’s rectangular panel headboard features curved corners and an airy, woven aesthetic. The bed frame is compatible with an adjustable bed, and offers 7.3” inches of under-bed clearance for storage. Best of all, a box spring is not necessary simply add the mattress of your choice (sold separately).
I purchased a platform bed from Wayfair (it is Wayfair’s brand - Sand & Stable). It reports a supported weight of 1500 lbs (the product page is here: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/sand-stable-xander-low-profile-platform-bed-stmh2144.html )
Within two months of owning the bed, it collapsed on the side rail. I left a review about this on the product page. Wayfair then sent me a replacement box (essentially half of the first shipment). I installed the replacement side rail and things were ok for awhile.
Today, when I went to sit down on the edge of the bed, the bed collapsed in exactly the same spot. I am convinced at this point that this is a design defect in the bed and think that the labeled weight capacity of 1500lbs is not actually real. Wayfair is not providing support because the bed is 20 days outside of the 1 year warranty (even though the replacement parts arrived in July 2023).
I am 300 lbs, my wife is also 300 lbs - with a 100lb mattress and our young daughters sometimes sleeping in bed with us we do not get anywhere near the 1500lb weight limit.
I felt like it was important to report this because my young daughters like to hide under this bed (despite us telling them that they shouldn’t be under there). I am massively concerned now about the potential risk to them had this happened when they were crawling under the bed and one of their parents was on the bed.
I also noticed that Wayfair has an existing recall in place for a similar platform bed that has similar associated risks - I feel like this recall should apply to this bed as well (even though the manufacturer might be different, the potential failure consequences are the same): [REDACTED]
