The product, in the report: Lexington 11 South Urbana King Bed
In early 2016 purchased a Lexington 11 South Urbana King Bed from Exotic Home in Norfolk VA
http://www.exotichomeinteriors.com/ https://www.lexington.com/
After a few days the bed frame collapsed due to a design flaw. The bed platform has support legs but they fold away, placing all the weight on the bed frame, that is only held together by a thin, glued wood veneer.
Luckily I was able to stop the headboard from falling on my children who were sitting on the bed at the time.
I demanded a refund from Exotic Home but they refused. They offered to replace it with a brand new bed, saying there was no design flaw.
After a few days, the new bed too, broke and the headboard fell forward, hitting me on the head very hard. I was lying on the bed at the time so could not catch it in time. If my head had not broken the headboards forward collapse, it would have fallen on my wife’s face.
Again I demanded a refund but Exotic Home refused. They said they would modify the bed (thereby voiding the factory warranty). Lexington refused to modify the design of the bed.
Exotic home added extra steel brackets and many additional support legs under the platform, to keep the weight of the frame. But even their supports, and the standard supports fold away if there is a slight sideways movement of the bed. The bed does move on the floor because it is a hardwood/laminate floor and the bed needs to be moved also to clean under the bed.
The bed has a very heavy wood headboard. If that headboard falls on a child, elderly person, or pet, they will be severely injured or worse. This will also happen if a child or pet crawls under the bed and bumps against one of the supports, causing the bed to collapse on them. It could be a severe injury or worse.
I wrote a review of the bed here:
https://www.amazon.com/review/RPTSHOBXUPNOP/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rv
I anticipate with more of the supports folding away, and their mounting bolts breaking because of the repetitive bending, the bed will collapse again in the near future. For safety, we now have to sleep on the floor on the mattress.
