The product, in the report: Home Zone Furniture “Amarillo” king size bed the bed rails and slats that collapsed were warranty replacement parts provided in May 2024. Manufacturer: Vintage Furniture, 410 Carrier Ave, Benton, LA 71006.
The bed rails and slats collapsed without warning during normal use while two adults and an infant were asleep in the bed. This was the second time the same parts failed. The original rails and slats had failed before and were replaced under warranty in May 2024. Then the replacement parts failed too. I hurt my lower back, a lumbar and SI joint injury, and needed months of physical therapy from May 1 to July 8, 2026. My wife also needed medical care because of this. Our infant was in the bed when it collapsed. The baby was not diagnosed with a physical injury, but a bed collapsing without warning during sleep, with a small child in it, is an obvious risk of injury or entrapment. The same structural parts failed twice during ordinary use. That tells me the product is defective. I also want the Commission to know how the retailer handled this. Home Zone promised me in writing on February 4, 2026 that it would get the manufacturer’s insurance information and follow up with next steps. That follow up never came. When I called, a Home Zone representative told me the company cannot do anything and that I should work with the insurance company. The insurance company he pointed me to then denied my claim. So my family is left with a defective bed, medical bills, and no one taking responsibility. I am reporting this so there is a record of both the hazard and how it was handled.
