  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 1, 2017, sent to the company Mar 6, 2018, published by CPSC Mar 20, 2018

The product, in the report: Creations convertible crib #6468-523 sleigh crib/ Summer’s Evening in cherry with purchased side rails from the same company

Hello, Purchased a children’s furniture set from USA baby, located in Newington, CT 06109. The set came from Creations a Meridian company. I purchased the set in 2011 just before my daughter was born. We purchased a combo/dresser set, an armoire, and a convertible crib. The crib was sold to us as a piece that would “grow” as your child did. Meaning it started out as a crib, converted to toddler bed, then adding two side rails that we purchased from USA baby, it became a full size bed.

On May 31st, while my daughter was sleeping, the headboard came apart from the two side rails of the frame. The wood of the rails split apart and the screws pulled out of each of the rails. This sent my daughter sliding down towards the headboard hitting her head.

I have discovered that as of 2013, Creations is no longer in business. The only USA baby left has told me that they are each independently owned and could not help me. The Meridian company has also told me that they no longer carry Creations and could not help me. What recourse do I have and how do I let the proper authorities know that this crib is defective? I have my receipts for the purchase of all the pieces, photo’s of the damage on the bed, and a copy of the warranty Creations had on their pieces. Any help would be greatly appreciated, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Creations Summers Evening Crib and conversion kit in Cherry. Crib had been converted into the full size bed with the conversion kit.

Creations Summers Evening Crib converted into a full size bed using the conversion kit that was sold with the product. The side rail by the foot of the bed split while my son was sleeping in the bed. It caused the bed to fall apart and collapse onto the side where the rail split. (bottom right side) We converted the bed to the full size about 2 years ago. My son does not jump on the bed. He uses it to sleep or sit and read. My son was not injured, just a little shook up from his bed falling apart as he slept.

I tried to call Creations to see about getting a replacement piece and could not get a working number for them. Called the store I bought the crib and conversion kit from and was told that they have dealt with this several times. I was told Creations changed from making wood conversion kits to particle board conversion kits without telling anyone. These kits are the ones that are breaking.
