The product, in the report: Item Description: Canyon White Queen Wall Bed/Dresser/ Mirror. Manufacture Details: Hong Fu Vietnam Co., LTD(Batch/Lot:10001363010)
On November 22 of 2025, I ordered two bed sets from Bob’s Discount Furniture, which were delivered on December 06 of 2025. One king sized set is used for me and my husband. One queen sized set is for our daughter. She has been using her bedroom for the first two months and half. We have heat on and my daughter’s bedroom windows were closed during night time since it was winter. We noticed a persistent, overpowering “new furniture” chemical scent all the time, and very strong during night.
January 2026: Bothered by the smell, I checked the furniture labels. they featured a California Proposition 65 warning for Lead and Lead Compounds, but did not mention Formaldehyde or Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs). We trusted the label and letting my daughter keep using the room.
End of February 2026: The strong odder did not subside. Out of concern for our daughter’s health, we displaced her from her room to sleep on a couch.
Formaldehyde Testing Chronology: 03/02/2026 (Test 1): I used a chemical air quality testing kit on the dresser close to where the opened drawers. The testing solution turned dark blue, indicating high level near 1.00mg/m3 of formaldehyde. The bed air tested between 0.35-0.45mg/m3. (Safe level are typically under 0.10mg/m3).
March- April 2026: We attempted extensive off-gassing mitigation. We opened all drawers and windows daily for 3 weeks, sunbaked the drawers outdoors for an additional 4 weeks.
05/17/2026(Test 2): Re-testing showed a minor drop to 0.15-0.25mg/m3. Still above sate thresholds.
06/25/2026(test3): After keeping windows open for another month, level remained stagnant and unsafe 0.15-0.25mg/m3. As of August 2026, the room still has a strong, noticeable chemical odor. Our daughter has been unable to sleep in her bedroom for six months.
Retailer Response: We contacted Bob’s Discount Furniture to remove the defective, off-gassing set. They dispatched a technician on 08/19/2026 whose name is [REDACTED] to our home. He brought no air- monitoring equipment, relied solely on a subjective smell test, andclaimed he could not smell anything. I provided him with photos of the chemical test results. Bob’s Discount Furniture subsequently denied our request for removal or resolution, stating they would take no action based entirely on the technician’s subjective evaluation.
