The product, in the report: This is a bed loft kit, that is made by the purchaser at home. I purchased a loft style bed kit from Bed Bath and Beyond (Overstock) for my grandniece, who lives with me. The kit was missing pieces, the steps leading up to the bed did not have the pre-drilled holes in the right places, and the elevated slats are too short to sit correctly on the bed rails. We managed to get the bed put together, and I tried to get the mattress support slats to provide adequate support for her (she weighs 165 pounds, the slats are supposed to be rated for 300 pounds, which I doubt can be supported). However, shortly after we assembled the bed and she began using it, one of the steps leading up to the elevated mattress broke and she fell. Not seriously injured but a few bumps and bruises. However, I continue to be concerned about the steps and the mattress slats, as they do not extend fully to the rails on which they are supposed to rest. The instructions which came with the bed CLEARLY state the slats MUST be placed onto the support rails and not close to the edge of the rails, as these slats can fail and cause the mattress to fall four feet to the floor. When I requested replacement slats that would fit into the space and onto the support rails, BB&B/Overstock said that no replacement parts were available. I asked to return the bed, and they refused to accept it. (It came in three boxes weighing over 340 pounds). I am concerned that many more bed loft kits are being sold with defective steps and defective mattress supports, which will fail and lead to childhood injuries of a serious nature.
