On July 15, 2026], I purchased a set of childrens bedroom furniture (including --a twin bad flame/dresser, mirror and a nightstand]) from the website-----Raymour & Flanigan

The furniture arrived and was assembled in my childs bedroom on July 20th. Immediately after unboxing, the product began emitting an extraordinarily strong, harsh, and persistent chemical odor. We initially assumed it was normal new-furniture off-gassing and kept the bedroom windows open with fans running continuous ventilation.

However, after 15 days of continuous ventilation, the intense toxic smell has not dissipated at all. Entering the room causes immediate eye irritation, throat discomfort, and mild headaches. Because of this severe off-gassing, the furniture is completely unusable and poses a serious indoor air quality and chemical exposure hazard.

The product was intended as standard bedroom furniture for my [6-year-old child]. Fortunately, because the smell was so overwhelming from day one, we did not allow our child to sleep in the room, which prevented prolonged exposure. However, my spouse and I experienced eye stinging, throat irritation, and headaches during the assembly and during our brief visits to check on the room’s ventilation over the past two weeks.

Given that this product is marketed specifically for children, the extreme off-gassing indicates potential non-compliance with federal safety limits regarding volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or formaldehyde emissions (such as EPA TSCA Title VI standards). I am reporting this to alert CPSC of potential health hazards associated with this product line

    Product Hazard Report Child Injury

I am submitting this report to document a safety hazard involving a bed frame manufactured by Ashley Furniture.

My four-year-old son was injured when his neck was cut by a sharp, pointed corner on the bed frame. The edge of the frame is extremely pointed and exposed. While he was near the bed, the corner cut his neck and broke the skin.

Thankfully the injury did not require an emergency room visit, but the cut was significant and very concerning given that it occurred on his neck. A bed frame used in a family home should not have exposed sharp points that can easily cut a child.

I have taken photographs of both the sharp corner of the bed frame and my son’s injury. The design appears unsafe and poses a risk of injury, especially to children.

I am reporting this incident because I believe the product presents a serious safety hazard and could potentially injure other children in the same way.

Product: Ashley Furniture bed frame Incident: Sharp corner cut child’s neck Child age: 4 years old Injury: Neck laceration (skin cut)

Photos are available documenting the product hazard and injury.

The product, in the report: Ashley Furniture Drystan Queen Bookcase Bed With 4 Storage Drawers, Signature Design by Ashley Drystan 5 Drawer Chest and two Signature Design by Ashley Drystan 2-Drawer Nightstand

I am currently employed by [REDACTED] and work at the test lab in [REDACTED], MD. In January 2025 I made an online purchase of Ashley Furniture Drystan Queen Bookcase Bed With 4 Storage Drawers, Signature Design by Ashley Drystan 5 Drawer Chest and two Signature Design by Ashley Drystan 2-Drawer Nightstand from Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). The furniture was installed by delivery personnel. There was a strong odor coming from the furniture, but we thought it would go away after a few days. The odor has not gone away and its been about 4 months since the installation was done. After I slept in the room for the first night I woke up with a really bad headache and just did not feel like my usual self after a night sleep. In addition to the headache I felt my heart rate beating faster and heavier than usual, which is not something one would expect after waking up in the morning. A few weeks later while having my physical exam it did turn out that my blood pressure was high and previous exams my blood pressure were in normal range. In April 2025 I was scheduled for another medical procedure and again my blood pressure was high when checked. My 78 y.o. mom had experienced severe headaches as well, she rarely get headaches, and we believe the chemical odor from the bed is the culprit.

The product, in the report: Townser King Panel Bed with Storage Item # APK-B636-KPS

04/14/18 my Townser King Panel Bed from Ashley’s furniture fell and caused me to hit my head against the headboard. On 04/14/18 I was placing a fitted sheet on the head of my bed. My body and weight was stretched across the head of the bed tucking in the sheet when the bed frame detached from the head board causing the bed to fall to the ground. Due to the bed falling and my weight being across the bed I fell and hit my head hard against the headboard. Pictures show that the brackets to hold the bed frame into the head board were not installed properly on the side rails. The bracket is upside down and will not lock into the headboard.

The product, in the report: Ashely Furniture Addison Beach Limited Firm King (Item # M92141), adjustable head (Item # M9X442) and foot (Item # M9X442A) power base.

Ashley Furniture Home Store is mixing and matching mattresses and bases, in my case a power base to make sales. They are violating Federal Regulation 16 CFR 1633, and possibly others I am not familiar with. I am sure I am not the only person they have sold mattresses with non compliant bases. It took higher measures to get a full refund and pick up of the items. They were not cooperative, and once I pointed out they were violating the federal regulation, they were quick to return the items. They also use false advertisement to get sales. I feel I should report this as it could be fire hazard under the federal regulation, and want to be sure no one is injured due to this, or has to go through my same ordeal. Two of the same mattresses that are not in compliance with the federal regulation collapsed and bulged in the same spot, as it is not fit for use on a power base. I have included photos of the mattress tag, and receipt showing the adjustable head and foot base sold with my mattress are not the item numbers listed on the mattress tag as bases that are compliant under 16 CFR 1633. I did not realize this issue until I was told the second mattress that collapsed was my fault, and I had to file a complaint with the local consumer protection agency. There are many complaints about the quality of their furniture via review sites and the BBB. Many people also complain about their horrible customer service. I have evidence of them stating the mattress they sold is compliant, and one employee saying it was not due to being innerspring. I can provide any information needed.
