The product, in the report: Summer Infant Folding Double Bedrail product (product number at the top right of the manual says 12554, 12554Z).
I have made a couple videos to try and illustrate a HUGE flaw in the Summer Infant Folding Double Bedrail product (product number at the top right of the manual says 12554, 12554Z).
The design flaw is that the spring loaded pin which attaches the two sides of the bedrail under the mattress faces UP towards the mattress. A little bit of pushing on the mattress and the bedrail comes undone!!!
I woke up at 1 AM to my 2 year old daughter saying (calmly) on the baby monitor “I need help” (sweet baby). This was only the second day of using the bed rails.
I went to her room and she was standing at the door. I have no idea if anything bad happened to her, she seemed in fine spirits, so I assume she didn’t fall hard, but the bed rail was unattached.
Here is a link to the video in my [REDACTED] account showing me pop the pin: First video is just pointing to where the pin is. [REDACTED]
And this second video is showing me getting on the bed and causing it to open: [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Bed rail
I purchased a toddler bed rail about August 2016. We took the bed rail off the bed and when we put it back on it broke. There were metal knob pieces that went in a hole to hold the rail together and the metal knobs broke. The metal could have broken if a toddler shook the rail. I e-mailed the company, I think in September but they ignored me. I asked for my money back but I really don’t care about that as much as the safety Issue at hand. I sent a “not nice” e-mail today to them. I have the rail in my garage still.

Summer Infant Sure and Secure Deluxe Bedrail, Pink n’ Plush
Initially this rail seemed perfect, an my daughter loved it. After using is for a short time, we purchased a new mattress for my daughter and upon lifting up the old mattress realized the support rails had both snapped off at the ends, leaving it unconnected to the straps the secure this bed rail under the mattress. This was very upsetting realizing she could have easily fallen out of bed, and also now the bed rail is completely unusable. I would expect for the price, this should have lasted for several years. Very disappointed in summer infant products! This is extremely unsafe and should be removed from the market!

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Jul 1, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 15, 2011
The product, in the report: Single bed rail
While the victim was laying in her bed leaning her body against the guard rail that was securely attached to her twin bed within 10 minutes the guard collapsed causing the victim to fall onto the floor
The four year old 33 pound and 35 inches tall victim hit her head on the wooden floor receiving a bruise on the left side of her head and injured her left arm. She also had bruising to her legs.
She was taken to see her Pediatrician (Doctor’s name not provided) where he diagnosed her with a mild fracture to her left arm in which he placed in a sling. She had also fractured her collar bone.
No cat scans were performed and the child was prescribed with medication and the victim’s parents were advised to not allow her to use the arm for proper healing.
There are plastic pieces at the bottom of the guard real that broke off causing the guard rail to break and injuring the victim. She noticed that the labeling on the product indicated for ages 2-5.
She has been using the rail for approximately 2 years. She has discontinued the use of the guard rail and will contact the firm to make them aware of the incident.
