The product, in the report: Regalo HideAway Double Bed Rail - product can be used in the up position as a bed rail for folded down and hidden between the mattress and box spring in the ‘hideaway position. It’s in the HIdeAway position that the metal hooks are exposed.
We had the Regalo Double Hideaway Bed Rail on my son’s bed. It was in the hideaway position and my 3 year old son was getting of the bed (rolled onto belly to slide off edge). The rail has metal hooks showing in each of the 4 corners when it’s in the hideaway position and he got ‘caught’ on the metal hook when he as getting off the bed and lacerated his scrotum. He was rushed to the ER due to bleeding. These hooks are dangerous and could cause serious injury. A child’s project should NOT be made this way.

The product, in the report: children’s bed rail
The respondent saw a 23 month female, who had been injured.
The baby was stuck in between the bed and the rail. The child was not moving and appeared to be limp. The mother removed the baby and took her directly to Seattle Children’s ER. The ER staff checked the baby and she appeared to regain her normal breathing, by the time she arrived to the hospital. However, baby also sustained abrasions on her back and neck. The respondent believes that the injuries may heal on their own.
The respondent said that the mother heard the baby crying and when she checked on her, she discovered that she was trapped.
The ER physicians were worried because the scars to the neck appeared to be similar to strangulation and they can sometimes get worse. However, the baby appeared to be okay when they released her.
The respondent looked at the product description on-line and it stated that it was intended for children ages 2 - 5 years old.

The product, in the report: Bed Rail
A plastic piece that holds a strap to the other side of the mattress broke and the strap came free. Luckily my daughter caught this and let me know that it was loose, but this would have caused a complete failure if she had actually rolled into it and needed it for it’s intended purpose. My daughter is a little rough with it but she’s 3 so it should be expected.

The product, in the report: Regalo extra wide hide away Baby Gate in white.
I purchased a Regalo Extra long Hideaway Bed rail for my daughter’s bed on June 4, 2013. Within 10 days of correctly installing the bed rail, the protective netting zipper closure failed causing the netting to easily separate. The netting is slipped over a tubular open frame and it is the main part of the protection for the bed rail. Without it being secured with the zippered closure there is nothing to keep the netting from sliding down the bed rail frame and allowing an unprotected gap from forming where a child can easily fall from the bed.

The product, in the report: Hide-Away Bed Railings
Email to Regalo Company summarizing incident:
I purchased the Double Hide-Away Bed Rails from Babies-R-Us (Wilkes-Barre, PA) back in August or September of 2011, when we were transitioning my then-almost-2-year-old to a bed. They have worked pretty well. The only times I use the hide-away feature is when I change the sheets on the bed - every two weeks or so - so this frequency should not be enough to cause a fatigue failure in the product after less than a year and a half of use. When I was unlatching one of the rails to slide it under the mattress last week, the metal joint between the rail and the wheel that slides in the piece that goes under the mattress failed - totally broke, leaving a large gap between the mattress and rail as well as two very sharp metal “stubs”. I was very glad the failure occurred when I was adjusting the railing rather than when my son was getting in or out of bed, because this could have caused him to fall, severely lacerate himself, or get caught between the mattess and railing. I called your customer service number as instructed on the registration card, and the man was absolutely no help. He repeated that your company offers a 90-day warranty and no more. He offered parts for purchase. That was it. I asked for the name of a supervisor, and he said he could give no contact person for this issue. I am extremely angered and disappointed by this response from a company whose motto is “For the most important people in the world.” I have notified the store manager where I made the purchase, and she planned to take this issue to her managers. Depending on the response I receive from Regalo, I am prepared to contact Babies-R-Us on a corporate level to notify them of the hazardous product they are selling and the lack of concern from the manufacturer. In my opinion, Regalo should replace my product with no questions asked and send me a return label so I can send back the faulty product so you can research the failure and determine if a recall is warranted.

The product, in the report: Regalo Hide Away Extra Long folding bed rail
I purchased a Regalo Hide Away Extra Long folding bed rail in January 2012 for occasional use on our king size bed for when my 3 year old sleeps in my bed when my husband is out of town. A few weeks ago I went to put the rail up and discovered that one of the guide rails had snapped in two. Thankfully it happened when not in use or the rail would have become unsafe.

The product, in the report: Regalo Extra Long Extra Tall Hide Away Bed Rail Model 5050HD
We have bought and broken two of extra long hideaway bed rails from Regalo in the past 6 months. After the first one broke, I figured we must have put too much pressure on it or something. But now that I have broken a second one, and I wasn’t putting much pressure on it at all, I feel it is a defect in the product. I have inspected how each one broke and it is right at the connection point between the bed rail and the rails that go under the mattress b/c there is only a small, thin metal disc holding it in place. That is very poor quality construction and it really ought to be recalled immediately. It doesn’t break so much that it falls over, it breaks so that it pulls back from the mattress just far enough for a small child to get stuck. That is way too dangerous.
