The product, in the report: Product Name: Melafa365 Bed Rails for Toddlers, 78”, Gray Description: This is a full-length, foldable bed rail guard intended for toddler and child safety. The rail is 78 inches in length and is designed to be installed along the side of a bed to prevent children from rolling or falling off while sleeping. The product consists of: A long, gray fabric mesh panel stretched over a metal frame. Vertical anchor arms that insert between the mattress and box spring. T-shaped support feet positioned under the mattress. Straps and buckles intended to secure the rail by threading them around the opposite side of the bed. The product was advertised as suitable for use with full-size beds and was purchased with the explicit purpose of protecting a 13-month-old toddler during sleep. Its stated function is to prevent children from falling out of bed, and it was marketed as safe, sturdy, and compliant with toddler safety standards.
On June 11, 2025, my 13-month-old daughter was injured when the melafa365 Bed Rails for Toddlers, 78”, Gray, failed to perform as advertised. The product was purchased from Amazon and installed on both sides of a full-size bed exactly as instructed in the manufacturers manual.
The rails were fully extended and positioned flush with the mattress edges, vertical anchor arms were inserted between the mattress and box spring, T-shaped support feet were placed under the mattress, and straps were tightened around the opposite side of the bed. All components were checked for stability before allowing my child to sleep alone.
Despite correct installation, the rail failed to prevent her from falling headfirst off the bed onto a hardwood floor. As a result, she sustained a large hematoma on her forehead, bruising under her right nostril, additional bruises on her arm and leg, and a nosebleed. She was taken to the emergency room for evaluation and monitoring due to concern for concussion.
This product is marketed to prevent toddlers from falling out of bed, yet it failed catastrophically under normal, intended use, causing physical harm to a child.
