The product, in the report: Tauber Genuine Leather Executive Chair (bought by my wife [REDACTED] as a Christmas present) See More by Red Barrel Studio® NOTE: probably most or all the leather chairs made by China and shipped to the US have this chemical allergen problem. [REDACTED]

I received a new leather chair from Wayfair over Christmas. After assemblling and sitting in it the first week of January, my back started burning and blistering. Photos of my back showed the rash matching where my shirted back contacted the leather. I discontinued using the chair, and researched chemicals. Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) is a common biocide put into dessicant packets by Chinese furniture and leather goods manufacturer to prevent mold. BUT, they don’t label the packets as containing DMF, or anything. DMF was banned by the EU in 2009 for this exact chemical allergen problem, which they called ‘Toxic Sofa’. DMF also was labelled the 2011 Allergen of the Year by the [REDACTED]. As a Disabled Veteran I contacted my PCP at the VA asking to see a dermatologist and explaining I am reacting to DMF, something of which the doctors aren’t aware. They told me to go to Urgent Care. First visit, misdiagnosed as inflamation. Prescription did not solve problem. About ten days later, with a worsening condition, I went to Urgent Care again, misdiagnosis was bacterial infection. Antibiotics didn’t help. Problem got worse. Begging the VA for a dermatology consult, their backlog forced me to go to the Emergency Room. Misdiagnosis: Scabies. Prescription made it even worse. Each of the preceding doctors had NOT known about DMF and misdiagnosed me. Only the following dermatologist knew it was a chemical allergen reaction and prescribed correctly (3 weeks after I first sought treatment). Recovery is still ongoing. Through conversations with others, I have identified two other people who suffered the same allergen reaction to new leather furniture. This isn’t just about Wayfair. They took their chair back. It’s about ALL leather furniture and shoes being shipped from China using DMF as a biocide and where the chemical use is NOT identified, nor is there any health warning. Read this: [REDACTED] and this [REDACTED] and this video describes the problem in detail (26:00) [REDACTED}.
