The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Staples Hazen mesh office chair

I work from home for the [REDACTED] and while sitting in my office the leg of my chair had broke resulting in me falling back and hitting my head on the permanent shelving. This caused some downtime for me to get this fixed up and resolved.

Because this chair is part of a recall and I cannot wait 3-4 weeks to wait for replacement of the chair base, it will result in myself having to drive into town (1 1/2 hours) to purchase another chair to use in the interim.

This has resulted in myself having a moderate head injury and back injury due to the fall. And the need to purchase a new chair. As well as having some unnecessary downtime from work.

The product, in the report: Torrent Bonded Leather Managers Chair SKU 923571 -has what appears to be a plastic dolly with five wheels, height adjustable by means of air cylinder, and high back.

Had an office chair purchased at Staples break, causing me to fall over backwards. This chair was manufactured 1/16/12, and I am not sure of the exact purchase date. Label on bottom describes it as Torrent Chair item #20224 SKU 923571. Checked Staples Website, and chair is still available at this link.

    https://www.staples.com/Staples-Torrent-Bonded-Leather-Managers-Chair-Black/product_923571

When I sat on the chair this morning, the dolly(with five wheels cracked in half and I fell backwards. I understand this is a 6 year old consumer grade(not commercial grade) product, but the dolly should have not broken in half and this product needs to be recalled. Also, this chair was only used only by average weight people, and should not have broken.

The product, in the report: computer chair

My wife was sitting in the computer chair I recently purchased for her as a Christmas gift. Suddenly without warning the rod that holds the chair to the base dropped thru from the bottom causing the chair to become detached form the base. She fell backwards banging her elbow on the floor. This happened a few minutes ago. Fortunately the injury does not appear to be serious.

I got and installed the replacement base for the Staples Hazen Mesh Office Chair. Metal shards on the new base sliced my toe when I put my foot under the base of the chair like I, and many others, often do. I turned over the chair and found a hyperdermic-like metal shard sticking out of the edge of the new base on three separate legs, and metal spikes all on the underside of the chair, especially by the wheels. When I tried to hammer the shards back to the base for safety, especially if my kids sit on the chair, metal shavings went everywhere. This recall fix is UNSAFE.

The product, in the report: Roncer Mesh Back Task Chair sold by Staples item # 571981

Roncer Mesh Back Task Chair (Staples item# 571981) delivered 5/8/15 - upon opening box - very strong chemical odor - which upon assembly the next day seemed to disappear. Over the past 2 weeks, skin on inner portion of left knee became extremely itchy, red and inflamed - use of cortisone spray seems to have helped the area. Subsequently have other areas of body developing itch and redness -- today it dawned on me that the chair was the cause. In doing online research - found there are chemicals used in Chinese products that can cause severe skin conditions - the chair’s tag shows it was made by ZHEJIAN HENGLIN CHAIR INDUSTRY - 3 BLOCK, SUNLIGHT INDUSTRY ZONE, ANJI COUNTY, ZHEJIAN PROVENCE, CHINA 313300.

Having just notified Staples Customer Service of the problem and need to return, was told to call Staple Corporate Office (877-235-9088) tomorrow, which I will do.

This and any product imported from this China company needs to be taken off the market - it is not safe for use.

If skin condition is not feeling better, will make appointment with dermatologist for treatment -

Question of Consumer Product Safety Commission: should this chair be tested before it is returned to Staples?

The product, in the report: Staples Burlston® Luxura® Managers Chair, Brown. attached the label that could be found on the chair with the images.

The product is Staples Chair which is being used in front of a computer table on an average of 2 hours per day. I rest my hand on the right hand side of the hand rest and after a few days i saw something was hurting me from inside. when this was complained to staples they replaced the handle with a new one. when i found that the new one also had the same issue. i cut opened the leather on the handle to find that there were quite a few sharp metal nails under the leather and foam cushion. since this happened on both the handles. I suspect this should have been a problem across board.
