The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Hi back office chair

My son was sitting on the “Hi Back Tilter” office chair model when the back of the chair came off and he fell backwads. The chair back has a metal bracket on it, about 3” x 4” with sharp edges. It mates up with the slot in the chair bottom, and is held in place by a fist sized bolt retainer. The bolt fastens the chair back to the chair. As he fell, he came down on the metal bracket and it stabbed him in his lower back. It did not penetrate, but did leave a mark on his back. We are hoping to get him in for an x-ray shortly.

Apparently, the bolt came loose over time, and allowed the chair back to slip out of the channel, resulting in its fall when weight was put against it.
