The product, in the report: Rustic Style Youth Mission Chair (http://www.youthchairstore.com/Product/youth-chairs/rustic-style-youth-mission-chair--cc-265----clear-finish/3754?1=1&optionid=2935)
I purchased the youth mission chair (http://www.youthchairstore.com/Product/youth-chairs/rustic-style-youth-mission-chair--cc-265----clear-finish/3754?1=1&optionid=2935) from Webdirectbrands.com. I carefully assembled the chair according to the instructions and it appeared to be stable. However, when my 3 yr old son was climbing onto it, the chair toppled over onto him. I was next to him so I caught him and the chair. I sat him on the chair and instructed him never to climb the chair without me. Then when he was scooting back to sit further into the chair, the chair toppled backwards. Fortunately, he was not hurt, but it was a very scar experience for both of us. Of course, I did not let him sit on the chair again. Further inspecting the chair, I see how the chair could topple over to the side if a child reaches over because the arm rests extend beyond the chair legs. This is a chair fundamentally flawed in design. The legs are too narrow for the chair.
I emailed Webdirectbrands.com twice notifying them what happened and that I wanted to return the chair for a full refund. [REDACTED] , Customer Service Manager, emailed me back [REDACTED] and told me that I had to pay for the return shipping of the chair and restocking and that the original shipping would not be refunded. I emailed stating that it is ridiculous for me to have to pay to return and to restock this dangerous children’s product, so that they can, presumably resell it to another unsuspecting family.
[REDACTED] stated that they have been selling this chair for 12 years and this is the first safety issue that they have heard of. I do not believe that. I showed the chair to my friend, and she immediately saw how this chair was dangerous because its legs were too narrow and the arm rests extended beyond the leg support. The pictures and descriptions on Webdirectbrands website advertise this as a youth chair. As a consumer, I understood the representation that this chair was safe for a child to use. Unfortunately, when I received the actual chair, I found out that the chair is not a safe product. Webdirectbrands does not permit customers to leave reviews of this chair on their website. Because of their prohibitive return policy, Webdirectbrands continues to profit from the sale of this dangerous item even if customers return it. [REDACTED] directed me to contact White Wood[REDACTED] about my safety concerns. But it was Webdirectbrands who advertised and sold me this dangerous chair.
