As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Safford/Lakeview Bar Chair

We own two bar height patio sets purchased from Lowe’s on June 1, 2015 and manufactured by Garden Treasures. The patio sets (two tables and eight chairs) are used in the warmer months on an enclosed deck where they are never subjected to rain or other damaging weather. In cooler months, the sets are used in our finished basement. On January 30, 2017, a guest of our home was sitting in one of the chairs, and the chair began to collapse and break at the weld, slowly dumping the guest out of the chair backwards and onto his head on the concrete floor.

The product, in the report: 4 bar chairs

The submitter received a recall notice from the firm and she called them on March 4 to request the remedy. The submitter called again in April because she did not receive the remedy and she spoke with [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] told the submitter that the remedy had been shipped and she would receive it soon (FedEx tracking # [REDACTED]). The submitter said she received her 4 replacement bases last week.

The submitter’s husband installed the replacement bases and followed the instructions provided by the firm. The submitter’s husband advised the submitter that the replacement bases did not lock securely into chair but it was assembled per the instructions given by the firm.

On May 7 the submitter’s granddaughter was getting ready to sit on the chair when the chair lifted up and she fell to the floor along with the chair. The submitter said her granddaughter scraped her right arm. The submitter indicated that the base was still sitting up on the ground.

On May 8 the submitter contacted the firm to express her safety concerns and advise them of the incident. The submitter said she spoke with [REDACTED] and she offered to send her another base.

The submitter then noticed that all of the chairs appeared wobbly and not secure into the base. The submitter contacted the firm again on May 10. The submitter spoke with [REDACTED] and was told that [REDACTED] would have to call her back since she had been handling her case.

The submitter called the firm again today because she didn’t receive a call from [REDACTED]. The submitter spoke with [REDACTED] who told her that the firm has received many similar complaints about the base being unsecure. The submitter was then transferred to [REDACTED] and she offered to send her 4 replacement bases from the new batch. [REDACTED]advised the submitter that a new batch of bases will be available June 15 and the submitter will receive bases from this batch. The submitter said she offered to send back the bases but they said no.

The submitter is concerned that someone will sustain an injury because the chairs are not secure and the replacement bases are not safe. The submitter said when she tried to move the chair it fell apart.
