The product, in the report: See the following hyperlink for the product details: https://hivemodern.com/pages/product10713/beetle-dining-chair-unupholstered-conic-base-gamfratesi-gubi The chairs all had the “black matt base” option and a “dark green” shell (un-upholstered).
Three (3) Gubi Beetle Dinig Chairs at my residence have catastrophically failed while in normal use, with the failures having occurred within the span of approximately 6 months of one another. The dining chairs all failed in the same manner (same failure mode/location) -- specifically, the four (4) plastic connection points between the chair’s seat and its metal legs broke (photos can be provided of the chairs). Each failure resulted in the respective occupant of the chair to fall out of the chair and onto the floor. No injuries were sustained by the individuals that fell out of the chairs, but if the failure had occurred with a child or elderly individual in the chair, the consequences would have more severe.
The chairs were purchased new in 2017 through online retailer Hive Modern (product hyperlink: https://hivemodern.com/pages/product10713/beetle-dining-chair-unupholstered-conic-base-gamfratesi-gubi). After failure of the 3rd chair, I attempted to contact GUBI, who stated that all claims should be directed through the retailer, as GUBI does not coordinate directly with customers for warranty claims or repair parts. Subsequently, Hive Modern stated that the products were beyond the warranty period, that they could help our purchase of replacement chairs or parts, and that an alternative to replacement chairs or parts would be to find a furniture repair store to re-bond the plastic. Hive Modern did agree to contact GUBI to obtain additional care recommendations for preventing failure of the remaining seven (7) of our original set.
UPDATED ON 1/18/2024: Specifically, I’ve had additional communications with the retailer, who has confirmed that the manufacturer has agreed to replace the failed parts free of charge.]
