The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

  1. No one hurt

The product, in the report: Silvi Upholstered Dining Chair 33.46”H 18.5”W 27.55”D

I purchased a dining chair Silvi Upholstered Dining Chair (SKU 592683) from Crate and Barrel that has a serious design flaw. The rear legs protrude significantly beyond the chairs footprint, creating a trip hazard.

When individuals walk past the chairsparticularly within a normal walking distancetheir feet unexpectedly catch on the overshooting rear legs. This causes them to lose their balance or even fall. In one instance (or multiple if applicable), a person tripped and nearly fell due to this unexpected obstruction.

This is more than an inconvenience; it’s an unreasonable risk of injury. The design makes the chairs unsafe under ordinary conditions when placed in tight or common walking paths. This could create a substantial risk of injury to the public

The product, in the report: Crate and Barrel Ana Dining Chair https://www.crateandbarrel.com/ana-charcoal-dining-chair/s296512

Purchased 8 Ana chairs from Crate and Barrel in 10/2023 that were delivered 12/29/23. These dining chairs have been lightly used as normal dining chairs by our family of 4 used appropriately just for eating meals (most days only at dinner time). In early January 2025 (only 1 year of use) our 14yo son was simply sitting and eating his dinner when the entire front leg completely broke off and the chair collapsed. Our son fell to the ground backwards and hit his hip, back and head. Once this occurred we examined the remaining 7 chairs and 6/7 are cracking in the exact same location. Contacted the company and they admit it appears to be a manufacturing defect but do not want to take any action. Upon review of the website and product page there are over 20 examples of the same thing occurring to other people within the last year with a variety of injuries. The company has replied to these reviews so they are well aware but yet continue to sell these chairs to customers. They also refuse to post my review of the item which makes me believe they are likely hiding other reviews and examples of this happening. Someone is going to get seriously injured but they dont seem to care.

The product, in the report: Ana Ivory Dining Chair SKU: 387135 Dimensions: 20.25”Wx24”Dx33.5”H Hardwood and engineered wood Foam seat and back cushioning Polyester performance upholstery Imported

I purchased four chairs from Crate and Barrel, called the Anna Dinning Chair #SKU: 387141. I sat down in one of them to have dinner. After scooting back to sit fully in the chair (with my back against the back of the chair) I heard a crack. I got out of the chair and looked down to find a crack right at the joint where the leg connects to the bottom of the chair seat. I assume if it was my parent, someone heavier than I am, or my niece or nephew jumping to get in the chair, it would have broken off potentially hitting their face on my dining table.

I’m reporting this because after looking at reviews online at Crate and Barrel, many people have reported experiencing the front legs of this specific chair cracking and breaking off.

The product, in the report: Crate and Barrel Chair Model Felix Side Chair, Walnut. It’s a basic stack-able chair that’s shipped in pieces to customers for them to assemble. There are two legs pieces that cross in the center of the chair and are connected by a bolt and nut.

A nut fell off of a chair my wife was using while holding our young daughters around our kitchen table. The legs then broke off from the chair, sending all three of them to the ground. My wife took the brunt of the fall, but everyone was shaken up.

At first, she thought it was her fault because she used the chair without immediately replacing the nut. But when the nut fell off another chair a day later, I realized it was impossible to reattach because the central bolt had sheared off. And when I looked back at the bolt from the chair that had collapsed, the same thing had happened. It was a pretty crappy thing to have happen on Thanksgiving.

The product, in the report: Office Chair - Designed by Bethan Gray Plywood seat and bent plywood back Solid hardwood legs with black stain and clear lacquer topcoat Viscose-linen blend upholstery with self-welt detailing 360-swivel mechanism Polyfoam tight back and seat Plastic glides Made in China

Just sat at the chair and the leg breaks ( 1 month use) . Checking the legs structure, the fabrication process looks like not safe and there are not locks or joints to keep the legs in place to support the average weight of one person.
