The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: leather chair/ottoman with chrome base

We bought the California black chair and ottoman from Bailey’s approximately 12/2013. I believe we paid around $1200 for the set. Approximately 6-9 months ago I noticed slight peeling around the chrome base which at the time I thought was less then desirable but was not overtly concerned. The chair/ottoman had primarily been in storage until we moved into our newly build home 3/2014, it was kept in heated storage and not overly exposed to the elements. We followed Bailey’s cleaning directions, only dusting the base and using Baileys leather product on the chair/ottoman.

Never did I realize that peeling chrome would become such a safety hazard until July 30th, 2015 went my 8 month old infant put a small piece of it in her mouth and started choking. Although she is fine and healthy today, this incidence required the response of paramedics and had I not been there could have been much more disastrous. Of course following the incidence I moved the furniture to storage and contacted Baileys in the days following. Today nearly 6 weeks later there response to this incident was that no one else had complained and they had ordered us a new chrome base but since they nor longer do business with the manufacturer that was the most they could do. I would never gamble with my child’s life by putting the same chrome base back in my house. This situation could happen to anyone with young children. This complaint warrants further investigation, I believe on both the part of the BBB and the consumer product CPSC.
