As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Dipped Ceramic Small Lamp Base Blue/White Threshold from Target, 13 Inches (H) x 4.5 Inches (W) x 4.5 Inches (D) https://www.target.com/p/dipped-ceramic-small-lamp-base-blue-white---threshold--8482-/-/A-52416044

I purchased a lamp at a local Target store. On returning home I attempted to plug it into a GFCI outlet and there was a flash from electrical arcing. Had my hand been closer to outlet I could have been shocked or if I had plugged into a non protected outlet it could have resulted in fire. Clearly the internal wiring has a short somewhere. I attempted to report to the company’s safety line but they have not responded sufficiently. I have only had a response from their insurance company. I have made no claims nor am I interested in doing so. I just don’t want someone else to actually be injured by this product.

On April 4, 2013 I purchased a Threshold™ 2 Bulb Floor Lamp - Washed Wood from the Target store in Gurnee, Illinois. Upon assembly and placement of two, 150w 3-way [REDACTED] Lightbulbs, I noticed that the bulbs are only 1/4” from the cloth/plastic lampshade on each side. Curious as to the safety of this, I hesitantly turned the lamp on in my office. Within minutes, we could smell that the shade was overheating. After shutting the lamp off, I visited the Target website to see if any other consumers had reported issues. Nearly all customer comments for the lamp revealed a fire hazard - with reports of melting shades, etc. I returned my lamp to Target the very next day.
