I bought a lamp on Amazon. The lamp was sold by a third party seller. The lamp is a popular product and has priority listing on Amazon with the “Amazon Choice” branding label. The lamp is the type of lamp that clips on to something, it has a metallic rod that is twistable and at the top of the rod there is a ball joint that allows horizontal and vertical movement of the lampshade containing the light bulb. I went to swivel the light bulb barely today and a large electric arc appeared and a popping noise. The breaker tripped. I went to figure out where the spark came from, and I noticed that the ball joint had black soot coming out. upon closer examination, I looked inside and saw that the insulation for the two 120 volt wires had worn down and that it created a short circuit. I then looked up the reviews on this product on Amazon and found that I am not the only one who has had an issue. other people have reported fires with this lamp.
