The product, in the report: OttLite floor lamp with magnifying glass

I purchased an OttLite floor floor light that includes a magnifying glass. Yesterday, I moved the light stand to a spot near a window. This afternoon, my husband noticed smoke coming from the same corner where the light/magnifying lamp was standing. Bottom line, sunlight was coming through the window and then through the magnifying glass and shining down on the wood magazine stand. It caused a scorch mark in the magazine stand and was hot enough to bring cause it to smoke. Needless to say, had my husband not been in the room, the consequences for our home could have been disastrous.

I have contacted the manufacturer and asked for a refund or replacement with a simple floor light (no magnifying glass). I also asked that a safety warning be attached permanently to the lamp stating that it must not be stored or used near a window.

On close inspection of the lamp, I found a small-type Caution statement re risk of fire, stating that the lamp should not be placed under direct sunlight. This cautionary statement should be in bold red and in a size that is readily noticeable.
