The product, in the report: SE Table Magnifier Lamp - 5X Fluorescent Light (White)
Product ordered from Amazon.com.: “SE Table Magnifier Lamp - 5X - Fluorescent Light (White)” Sold by: Micro-Tools. I received the product Feb. 29, 2012. Product packaging box says: “LJJ Liang Jing Jing The Lamp of Illumintion (sic) Magnifying Glass. 139 Made P.R.C.” UPC # B000X7AHEY I plugged lamp into socket and turned on the switch. The fluorescent light flickered momentarily, then went out. I touched switch to try it again, but when I touched the switch, I heard a “poof” sound, saw a small cloud of smoke discharge, and immediately smelled a burnt electrical smell. I then immediately unplugged the lamp from the socket. Definitely defective! Truly unsafe! In my opinion, a piece of junk. No injury or harm took place to me or my surroundings. However, I wonder the result if it had been handled by a child, or to have continued to have been left plugged in. Note: Though not necessarily always needed, most plugs these days have polarized prongs. This lamp does not have a polarized plug. No contact information or address printed on carton.
