The product, in the report: Black Hampton Bay Floor Lamp (Model #398-505) with White Plastic Top

I was using a Hampton Bay Floor Lamp (Model #398-505) regularly for lighting in my bedroom. I have two of these lamps, the other of which is in the living room....both have experienced similar issues but the one in the bedroom is the particular one that prompted me to write this complaint. I turned on the lamp this morning and left the bedroom for about 2 minutes and when I returned the light was very dim and there was a clicking sound. The other lamp has occasionally gone dim as well but never with a clicking sound. I looked at the socket where the light bulb was installed and noticed blue sparks therefore I unplugged the lamp. There was a foul electrical odor in the air (which has happened on the other lamp when it was dim before as well). I let the lamp sit for two hours for the bulb to cool down. When I tried unscrewing the bulb from the lamp, the bulb shattered and cut me because the base of the bulb was actually fused to the lamp socket. I reported the incident to Hampton Bay as both lamps exhibited the same issue but the response I received did not seem very concerned which prompted me to write this complaint. I am not sure if it was a bad batch of lamps or if this is a common issue but I believe the product to be very unsafe.

The product, in the report: Floor Lamp US LR103653 120V 60Hz 420mA 27W

I purchased a metal portable luminaire Hampton Bay floor lamp, model 1327, US LR103653 from Home Depot, 11/11/10, $59.97 for myself and my husband. As we’ve aged it’s gotten more difficult to read without proper lighting so we thought this would assist us.

Immediately we began having problems with it. The arm of the lamp is attached to the metal pole with VERY SMALL teeth that are supposed to lock the lamp (light) in place. However, the lamp is too heavy for the SMALL teeth to hold. We have used tools to tighten the teeth, but each and every time, when we least expect it, the lamp lets go and smacks down next to our head. My elderly husband and I have been very fortunate that it hasn’t hit us in the head. If it did, I’m sure we would be taken to the hospital since the lamp is metal and very heavy as it slaps down.

It has fallen down so many times that we have lost count. Before we get hurt, I decided to contact the manufacturer Hampton Bay via email 01/03/12 and informed them of this safety hazard. I explained to them the danger we were experiencing and fully expected an immediate reply. To date there has been no response from them.

I checked the return policy of The Home Depot since I have the receipt but it has been too long so their policy does not allow the return.

This lamp is DANGEROUS! What recourse do we have? Thank you.

The product, in the report: Hampton Bay “Finding Nemo” Table Lamp, approx 15 1/2” tall and 10” wide; molded base with film characters, blue shade

Purchased a Hampton Bay “Finding Nemo” table lamp from Home Depot in 2008. The other night, after my wife and I had gone to sleep, the lamp came on by itself, accompanied by an electrical buzzing noise and smoke. It took several clicks of the switch before it would turn off. I immediately unplugged the lamp and removed it from the bedroom. The lamp has two bulbs operated by a 3-way switch; the base contains a 3 watt night light and the main bulb is a 40 watt max standard light bulb. We had a 14 watt CFL installed in the main fixture and a 7 watt night light bulb that came packaged with the lamp installed in the base. I tested the CFL in another known good fixture and it operates normally with no buzzing or smoke. The lamp base has an electrical burned smell to it.
