The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Bell and Howell, 27 Watt, floor lamp with a flexible neck. Very similar to https://www.amazon.com/Bell-Howell-Sunlight-Desk-Lamp/dp/B000RWPY98

I want to report a faulty ballast in a Bell and Howell flourescent floor lamp, which burned out and left a smoke stain on the carpet. Luckily it did not start a fire outside of the lamp, but the next person may not be so lucky.

It was plugged into a timer switch to help with security. Some time in the last few months it stopped working. I removed the ballast from the base and found that the cover was melted and the inside was charred.

It’s a 27 Watt lamp very much like ones available for sale online; https://www.amazon.com/Bell-Howell-Sunlight-Desk-Lamp/dp/B000RWPY98 It is some years old, but I don’t know how many.
