First aid Made Mar 18, 2015, sent to the company Mar 25, 2015, published by CPSC Apr 8, 2015
The product, in the report: Digital bathroom scale, glass platform
My bathroom scale was a model made by the Taylor Precision Products company, they are located in Las Cruces, NM. We have owned this item for around one year having purchased it in the local K-Mart. It is model #7506 which had a glass top which was stood on to obtain your weight from a digital readout.
A few days ago when my wife stepped on the unit to get her weight it shattered with such force that shards of glass and small pieces of glass traveled at least 10-15 feet. Glass covered the bathroom and adjacent bedroom. She sustained glass cuts to her feet and legs, has tiny flakes of glass all over her body and one in her right eye. The scale was on the floor, had never been dropped or damaged in any way. My wife weighs approximately 140 pounds, I weigh approximately 190 lbs, neither of us have ever used the scale in any way other than to stand on it barefoot.
