The product, in the report: Supco SCM 150
I had what I am told was a fuse (Supco SCM 150) that was attached to the electrical box for my AC unit outside. I noticed the other day while I was mowing that part of my siding had melted near this panel. I contacted my local fire department and they originally thought it was a lightning strike but after further investigation they contacted me to let me know that this fuse box had malfunctioned. The fire department made it very clear that they believe my house would have burned down if it hadn’t been raining outside when this malfunction had occurred. The rain put out the fire before it could do significant damage. in researching this product it has not been recalled but this appears to be a known problem and UL has removed its endorsement of this product because of its ability to catch fire. I have several pictures and the fire report can be found at the Piney Grove Fire Department near Kernersville, NC.
