Unit fed 240V/ twin 50Amp circuits to electrical resistance heater coils in forced-air heat pump HVAC system. (electrical resistance heat used as “back-up” heat source to HVAC system) Circuit breakers within unit evidenced thermal fatigue/ expansion of metal clip-to load bus and resulted in electrical arcing to center load bus; circuit breaker failed to interrupt circuit, which resulted in overheating and eventual small electrical fire contained within the load center and internal circuit breakers.
