Made Apr 27, 2022, sent to the company Jul 12, 2022, published by CPSC Jul 26, 2022

The product, in the report: Electrical Inverter (Built into mobile home at the factory)

The prior owner disabled the inverter in the mobile home. The inverter came factory installed in the mobile home.

4/12/2022: The consumer put new batteries in his mobile home and tried to operate a television in the home. The television was also factory installed, in the home.

The inverter feeds 3 different duplex recepticales. When he tried to operate the television, it kept tripping the GFCI . The consumer replaced the GFCI with a manufacturer’s factory recommended unit.

He tested the replacement GFCI and shorted the hot-to-ground, to see if the GFCI was going to shut off, but it did not. With a momentary short, something happened in the inverter and it continued to have power from the 12 volt side and caught fire inside. The compartment where this equipment is located was exposed to substantial smoke. He had to find the power button and turn the inverter off.

He’s conducted additional testing of it. The remote control has indicated the inverter is off-line. He tested the unit stand alone and it popped again.

The inverter has 2 fail-safes on 1 side of it and neither of them worked.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer 3 times in April 2022. None of the 3 representatives offered to do anything for him. One rep. (name unavailable), told him that it was out of warranty. The consumer pointed out that this was not a warranty matter, but a safety issue. However, nothing else transpired.
