The product, in the report: Lowes Utilitech E227659 TM-064 5 button Electric Timer with LCD display 125VAC/60Hz/15A General Purpose/15A resistive 1000W tungsten/500VA electronic ballast UL Listed clock operated switch 5SA7 A401814G0
On Saturday Nov 16, 2013 I discovered that the Utilitech E227659 TM-064 electric timer was hot to the touch when unplugging a lamp from the side of the unit. There was a noticeable melting of the outer shell of the timer. The wall receptacle was brown with melted face. Wiring inside the wall was also hot to the touch with melted coating on the solid AWG conductors for hot and neutral. There was no noticeable fire or smoke yet, only heat, melted plastic, and a brown/yellowing of the wall receptacle. The timer was removed from the wall. The receptacle had to be removed and replaced. The breaker in the main box for this circuit was also replaced as a safety precaution. Fortunately no personal property damage or fire as the melting was still in progress.
