The product, in the report: Super switch remote control module.
I purchased a product called super switch which is a remote controlled on off device to turn on lighting and other low wattage devices. My product is about three years old. I had a remote module plugged in. The device is a grounded three prong device, and it was plugged into a grounded three prong extension cord in my house. There was nothing connected to the device at the time of the incident. The device exploded and caused a fire in my house. The extension cord was fairly new no frays or open wires.
I understand that these products have wattage limitations but nothing was connected at the time of the incident. It was only powered up.
I am reporting this because I don’t want this to go unreported.

No one hurt Made May 29, 2011, published by CPSC Jun 21, 2011
The product, in the report: This is one of a set of three that came with a remote control. Normal function allow remote switching of a 110 VAC outlet.
Near fire with King Sound Enterprise Co., Ltd Super Switch Model KSI-293. My wife smelled a funny smell and I investigated to find a smoke filled room of our home. Upon searching for the source I found a “remote switching device” both with plastic melted inside and out and black soot around the seams of the device (pictures provided if requested). This unit was plugged into the wall recepticle, but was not activated nor did it have anything plugged into the electical outlet of the device. It was simply left after Christmas time when it was used to turn on our exterior lighting.
