The product, in the report: See previous.
Pass & Seymour 3-way switch began shorting, apparently due to a bad contact inside the switch. After disassembly, the inside of the switch exhibited moderate sooting near the hot (red) contact. Outside the switch, the hot (red) 14 ga. wire was slightly blackened at the connection. The switch was likely manufactured in 2002 or 2003. The country of origin is Mexico.

The product, in the report: wall light dimmer
(2/2022): A small flame emitted from around the wall dimmer’s cover plate, while it may have been in the on or off position, can’t remember. It’s unknown how long the light had been on. The consumer immediately turned off the electrical power for the dimmer, by tripping the breaker. Next, he removed the dimmer to make sure he stopped the fire, which had ceased.
The little IC-Chip inside the dimmer was blackened and it appears that flames were jumping around it, when the fire occurred.
There was charring to the wall area and some discoloration to the dimmer wall plate.
(2/2022): The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the matter to them and their representative simply said oh, but nothing else transpired.
The product is UL Listed 75M8, 120 volts,
The consumer is extremely concerned, because this could have led to a house fire.

I purchased a home in 2005 that was built in 2001 that used Pass and Seymour electrical single pole and 3 way light switches. as with the other four responses to this product I am having the same issues. I replaced two single pole and two 3 way switches today that had the same cracking of the back. something needs to be done about this as it is a problem that could cause property damage and loss of life from home fires. I will be checking the rest of the switches in my home over the next few weeks.

The product, in the report: Pass & Seymour 2, 3 and 4 way switches. Under 60 watt to 115 watt loads.
My house was built in 2008. All of the light switches are Pass and Seymour (made in mexico). I have had to replace 8-10 switches due to arcing and circuit failure. Visible charring and arcing of the switch. Didn’t matter if it was a single 60 watt bulb or 5 high hats with 23 watt CLF bulbs. My house is full of these and they will all be replaced.

The product, in the report: Light Switch 15amp
Light switch 15amp Pass & Seymour Item #85007 66013 are arcing, shorting and find the housing cracked open. I am contacting you regarding a disconcerting and dangerous problem with the Pass and Seymour wall switch model 660-WG. I recently replaced all of these switches in my 6 year old home as upwards of 75% of them are cracked or broken. These were professionally installed in a new home and have a consistent failure which resulted in a health and safety risk to my family. No fire or other damage occurred, but this product had a serious issue. I have approximately 30 failed switches on hand after replacing them.
The wall switches failed in nearly identical patterns with the side wall of the plastic switch housing cracking and separating in most cases. This allowed the push-in wiring connection to become unsecured and allowed for intermittent and arcing connections.

No one hurt Made Oct 29, 2012, sent to the company Nov 16, 2012, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2012
The product, in the report: Pass & Seymour light switches. Both 2 way and 3 way light switches have been faulty. They were manufactured on or before 1995.
My house came with Pass & Seymour light switches, which was built around 1995.
Within the last 3 or so years, I’ve had to replace several of my light switches due to safety concerns.
Nearly all of the light switches arc and you can see light when you turn them on. They also create a crackle type of sound when you turn them on or off.
The more severe issue is that a couple of them have smoked and caused a breaker to throw. After taking off the wall plate and removing the switch, the switch fell apart in my hands. It was split in half. This particular switch powered my 40watt light bulb in my closet. So there wasn’t a lot of load on it.
Since then, I’ve been going around and replacing any that make noise.

The product, in the report: wall-mounted light switch, both two-way and three-way switches
I purchased a home in the summer of 2011 that was built around 2002. As soon as I moved in I noticed that some of the light switches weren’t working properly so I opened up the wall plates to take a look and found that some of the light switches were cracked and the wires were loose or coming out of the back of the switch. In addition I found additional switches next to the ones that were giving me problems that were starting to “fall apart”, too. I replaced the bad switches and decided to check additional switches in the house. Upon opening more of the wall plates and found that many of the switches were starting to crack. I decided to replace all the switches in the house that were manufactured by this company. While replacing the rest of the switches I continued to find cracked switches and even found a couple switches that were completely broken in pieces (with wiring and bare metal switch components exposed). I was lucky that the house hadn’t burned down. After replacing all of the switches I found that over half of my switches were either cracked or falling apart. Out of 35 switches, 19 were bad (14 of 29 two-way switches and 5 of 6 three-way switches were bad)! It seems as if there must have been a manufacturing issue with the plastic when my switches were manufactured.
Today I investigated what brand the switches were and found out that they were all Pass and Seymour brand switches (white lever and white front with grey rear housing). The two-way switch were all Model 660-WG, though I could not find a model number for the three-way switch. I did some Internet queries and did not find anyone else that had reported the same problem I had. I mentioned the problems I was having to other homeowners in the subdivision to see if anyone else was having similar problems. One or two people said that they had light switches that didn’t work, but hadn’t checked into the reason why. At this time I do not know if anyone else had the same issue I did with their switches.

The product, in the report: Pass and Seymour 660-WG electric wall switch
Pass and Seymour model 660-WG: Back of switch breaks off at quick connect causing switch to not operate properly. Occasional arcing occurs if not replaced. This is the fourth switch that I have had to replace with the same failure. original equipment for house that was built during 2006-2007 time frame.
This is the same failure that occurred in incident 20110829-B28DF-2147475816 and noted on other online retail feedback.

The product, in the report: White 15A single pole switch
An investigation of a 15 amp circuit breaker operation on one of the circuits in our house revealed a problem with a Pass and Seymour 660WGU 15A whilte single pole switch. The back housing was cracked in such a way that the ground terminal came in contact with the “hot” wire terminal causing arcing and eventual circuit interruption by 15A breaker. This switch has been in service for less than five years. We have found three other switches from the same manufacturer which exhbited this cracking in the housing which were replaced before failure. These switches were all installed at the time our house was built. We moved in in December of 2006.
