The product, in the report: This is a Meross Smart Plug Mini, 15A Wi-Fi, Support [REDACTED], App Control, Timer, No Hub Needed, 2.4G WiFi Only. A link to this is below. It is stated on the product that it conforms to UL standard 607301 and 498. It is also certified to CSA standard E60730-1 and C22.2842. I have not tested the Meross matter smart plug, which is a different product. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=meross+smart+plug&crid=2LFITHAJMBDMD&sprefix=meross+smart+%2Caps%2C1416&ref=nb_sb_ss_p13n-expert-pd-ops-ranker_ci_hl-bn-left_1_13 https://shop.meross.com/products/meross-smart-plug-mini

I am reporting a safety concern with a consumer smart plug (Meross brand) sold for household use in the U.S. on Amazon. My testing showed that when the outlet is switched off, the device interrupts only the neutral conductor rather than the hot conductor. This leaves downstream loads energized even though the outlet indicates an off state.

This behavior is not disclosed and creates a foreseeable shock hazard when used with common appliances such as lamps, where the socket shell may remain energized during bulb replacement. No injury has occurred, but the risk of electric shock exists during normal, expected use.

This complaint is only for Meross brand smart plugs. [REDACTED] brand smart plugs properly switch the hot side.
