No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 19, 2022, sent to the company Dec 27, 2022, published by CPSC Jan 11, 2023
The product, in the report: E26/E27 Light Socket to Plug Adapter, 2 Packs 3 Prong Light Bulb Outlet Adapter with 1 Outlet, Provide 2/3 Prong Outlet for Garage Porch CCTV Camera and Electronic Equipment, etc (White) [REDACTED] This item is meant to convert an e26 [REDACTED] base socket into a 3 prong 120v receptacle, by screwing it into the [REDACTED] base socket, where normally a light bulb would be screwed in.
There are many e26 plug adaptors being sold by Amazon which claim to be grounded, but are NOT. These adaptors screw into a standard [REDACTED] base e26 lamp fixture socket, but these female sockets contain no ground connection. Therefore, there is no ground connection for the e26 plug adaptor to use. The ground connection in the e26 plug adaptor being sold has the ground connection left open. Very dangerous. I did verify this by purchasing one of the from Amazon. Again, this is extremely DANGEROUS and does not meet code for the USA market (or any market).
I am a retired Electrical Engineer with an MS degree and experience in the power electrical field for many many years. I suspected a problem with this adaptor based on the vague website description and photos on Amazon, so I purchased one and verified that it is indeed defective and dangerous.
These products need to be immediately removed from sale and those already sold, recalled. This is a dangerous defective design, not a manufacturing defect.
One example: E26/E27 Light Socket to Plug Adapter, 2 Packs 3 Prong Light Bulb Outlet Adapter with 1 Outlet, Provide 2/3 Prong Outlet for Garage Porch CCTV Camera and Electronic Equipment, etc (White) [REDACTED]
