  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Jan 25, 2024, sent to the company Feb 1, 2024, published by CPSC Feb 15, 2024

The product, in the report: 3 Prong Outlet Light Socket Adapter, E26/E27

The subject device is an adaptor intended to facilitate connection of a device with a NEMA 5-15P 15A 125V grounding type plug to a non-grounding medium-base lampholder. It’s a 3 Prong Outlet Light Socket Adapter purchased on Amazon.

A [REDACTED] member purchased the product and reports that the HOT and NEUTRAL contacts work as intended but there is no ground path for this device representing a clear violation of UL498A (UL Standard for Safety for Current Taps and Adapters) requirements applicable to non-grounding to grounding adapters. This could explain the lack of third-party safety certification. Products employing grounding type plugs typically rely on the grounding means as the last line of defense against potential shock and electrocution hazards associated with exposed metal parts. This last line of defense is defeated when plugged into the subject adapter. These products do not bear any 3rd party certification mark but there are many readily available through Amazon and [REDACTED].
