The product, in the report: 54432-s 88 827 646
Itron electric meter melted. The electric company stated it happens all the time. Nothing to worry about and to get an election to replace the meter socket. After researching in line I am concerned that this could happen again. There have been many Catastrophic Failures with these meters. The legs or the clips from the meter into the meter socket melted

No one hurt Made May 20, 2015, sent to the company Jun 11, 2015, published by CPSC Jun 25, 2015
The product, in the report: Iron Watt Hour meter - home power meter supplied by FPL power company
Florida Power and Light took off our analog power meter and put on a digital power meter. We have been paying a high fee every month to keep our old meter, but they switched them anyway. After the switch, our power kept going on and off. Last night, power to half the house was gone. We called FPL at 2am. They came out within an hour and removed the meter. The wiring to the meter overheated and melted the new meter and wiring, almost causing a house fire.

No one hurt Made Nov 19, 2014, sent to the company Dec 30, 2014, published by CPSC Jan 14, 2015
The product, in the report: ITRON wireless smart meter Centron II Openway I do not have specifics re the meter. BC Hydro began installing them in 2011 so I assume the meter was manufactured in 2010.
This was taken from the official report submitted to the BC Fire Commissioner: CREW RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A FIRE AT THE ELECTRICAL METER OUTSIDE OF [REDACTED] AVENUE, COQUITLAM. THE FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED IN THE VICINITY OF THE ELECTRICAL METER AND THE FIRE ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SIDING. THE RESIDENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE USING A HAND-HELD EXTINGUISHER PRIOR TO CREW ARRIVAL. THE RESIDENT ALSO SHUT OFF THE POWER TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CREW CHECKED THE RESIDENCE WITH A TIC, AND NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE EXTENSION WAS FOUND.[REDACTED] WAS NOTIFIED AND RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AS WELL. THE METER HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH A SMART METER WITHIN THE PAST TWO WEEKS. CUT THE POWER TO THE HOME AT THE POLE, AND THE SCENE WAS LEFT IN THEIR CARE. THE HOMEOWNER ADVISED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CONTAINED TO THE METER, WITH A LITTLE BIT OF DAMAGE TO THE PAINT/SIDING. THERE WAS NO EXTENSION TO ANY WIRING, AND NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. ACCORDING TO THE HOMEOWNER,IS COVERING THE DAMAGES. THERE IS NO INSURANCE CLAIM FILED. The report is filed at[REDACTED]
I would like to provide a full report from the BC Safety Authority which has photos, and will try to send via email.

No one hurt Made Sep 7, 2013, sent to the company Sep 16, 2013, published by CPSC Sep 30, 2013
The product, in the report: ITRON Centron II Openway smart meter The meter was purchased by BC Hydro and there is no specific information available.
Fire started at the side of the smart meter, at the circuit breaker box and spread quickly. http://www.stopsmartmetersbc.ca/html/?p=6705
The meter was taken by the BC Hydro instead of the fire inspector, and the report back was the same as always, no meter involvement.
