The product, in the report: LS15 charger for laptop

high temperature leading to possible fire and thermal injury risk to product already recalled. Company does not respond and has made the recall unnecessarily difficult. The product is:

“HP Notebook PC AC Power Cord Safety Recall and Replacement Program

On August 26, 2014 HP announced a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement program in cooperation with various government regulatory agencies, for certain AC power cords used with AC adapters distributed worldwide with HP and Compaq notebook and mini notebook computers, as well as with AC adapters provided with accessories such as docking stations. These AC power cords have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard. The affected AC power cords were shipped with products and accessories sold from September 2010 through June 2012. HP customers affected by this program will be eligible to receive a replacement AC power cord for each verified, recalled AC power cord at no cost.”

The company has failed to respond to two emails over the last 12 months requesting my charger (properly identified) be replaced. The charger continues to malfunction.

The product, in the report: The cord charger used with my HP 2000 laptop overheats and causes burns.

I have been using my laptop HP Notebook 2000 using the cord provided. I noticed that my hands were red and burning but did not know why. I bought Aloe Vera, sunscreen, and other burn ointments, but it kept staying red and painful. I finally associated it with the notebook being hot and the air being hot, so got a stand with a cooling fan, thinking it was the laptop. This also did not work, so I started wearing leather gloves with touch fingers thinking my hands were just ultra very sensitive. Finally, I called my landlady numerous times, thinking her internal wiring was old and causing overheating. In fact she was about to schedule an electrician. I never realized it was the cord itself that could be the cause of all this, though it does get hot. I thought that is just how it gets. I am so glad I found out and hope the new cord will eliminate the problem, though at this time my hands are still red, and though I wear gloves. I do my bills online and need to use the notebook constantly. I appreciate this coming to light and look forward to having protected use henceforth. I hope the problem goes away as my daughter kept saying to have a doctor see it, and I was due for an appointment so would have shown her it, also. Thanks!

The product, in the report: Replacement AC Power Adapter

I purchased a replacement power cord from Amazon.com for a HP/Compaq laptop. (I had lost the previous cord).

I had the cord for approximately 3 days, and after leaving it plugged in to charge the battery, I came home from work and lifted the cover of the laptop to power it on.

With in seconds, the computer started to smoke and my fiancee noticed a oraange glow from the back of the computer. I immediately pulled the cord from the wall and stepped away.

I did not report this previously, as I mistakenly assumed the problem was with my laptop. It ruined my laptop, but I was happy to have been home when the incident happened.

Causing several burn-marks on the wall, destroying the laptop for complete, the outlet and the AC cable itself. We had to wash and clean the burn marks of the wall with an hydro jet, repaint it, substitute the AC outlet and 12 meters of cable, the laptop was completely destroyed and the table where the laptop was had to be disposed because it got unusable.

The product, in the report: Laptop power adapter cable

I was attempting to charge my HP dm4-1253cl laptop computer from a wall outlet when I noticed that no charging was concurring. I unplugged the computer, adjusted the connection between the computer and the power cable, and the power adapter connection to make sure that everything was connected correctly. Once I replugged the computer into wall socket, I heard a loud buzzing and the immediately the power adapter box on the power cable caught fire between the box and the cord leading to the wall outlet. I unplugged the cable from the wall as quickly as possible, but significant burn damage to the carpet the power adapter occurred. Because there was no scorching on the wall outlet, the fire was NOT due to a power surge (and no other equipment was damaged during this event), but a defect in the electronics. Because the computer is no longer under warranty, HP has declined any service.

The product, in the report: Hewlett-Packard HP 65W Charger for a HP Pavilion dv6500t laptop.

I was using an HP dv6500t laptop when I smelled an acrid burning odor. I looked around for the smell and hearing this clicking noise. found the source was my laptop ac adapter, which I picked up to investigate. Once I picked it up, the cord began sparking and caught on fire, at which point it frayed. I immediately went to the wall and unplugged it, after which the fire went out quickly but generated a lot of smoke which I had to open a window to air out.

Apparently there are a lot of customer reviews on online merchants about these power adapters or batteries overheating or in some instances catching on fire. A quick look on google also reveals some news articles in which houses have burned down due to battery fires. I believe this is extremely dangerous and anyone still using these laptops should be aware. I have replaced this adapter several times due to the cord melting, but this is the first time it actually caught on fire and I am extremely frightened from the occurrence. I looked to see if my battery or the power adapter was on the recall list but it is not. I was lucky that I was home to witness this. I hope no one gets hurt from an incident like this.

    Product is a fire hazard.

I had plugged the charger in, to charge my device, and had a light blanket over it. I felt a lot of heat from my blanket, and when I reached under to find the source, I burned my finger when I touched the charger, and it even melted part of my headphones.

This is not the first time this has happened. Has happened numerous times, and is just getting worse.

The product, in the report: A/C adapter (CT: 592C40EMFUT1JW) for HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. Note: This is not pertaining to the HP battery pack recall already in place for this model. This complaint refers to the external A/C adapter that is plugged into the laptop and plugged into the wall. My internal battery did not have the correct codes to fall under the recall, and it was not overheated during this incident. I’m referring strictly to the A/C adapter.

I own a HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop. I hadnt used it in several months because I bought a new HP laptop recently. I put a DVD in to view and after less than 10 minutes into the DVD, I went to pickup the AC adapter external battery pack to move the whole laptop from the table to the floor and nearly burned my hand on the battery pack, so I quickly put it back down on the table and as I put it back down on the table I was burned by the end of the cord that enters the A/C pack. The cord just outside of the adapter was very very hot. I could smell burning electrical wires and hear a buzz or sizzle coming from inside the A/C adapter. I quickly unplugged the adapter from the laptop and shut down the laptop for fear of a fire. I visited this site to see if this product had been recalled, but they only thing HP has recalled on HP dv6000 laptops was the internal battery, and NOT the A/C adapter that you plug into the wall. This is a major fire hazard. You can see where the cord has started to melt. If I left my laptop unattended it most certainly would have caught fire. After only 10 minutes of a DVD playing the adapter was sizzling inside, and too hot to touch. If the whole movie played unattended my house wouldve burned to the ground! My internal battery is one of the non-recalled batteries CT: 6294102AXUWBJK, this internal battery was not hot at all during operation. Only the external A/C adapter battery pack and the thin cord leading from the laptop to the A/C adapter was extremely hot. The thicker cord going from A/C adapter to the wall outlet was just warm.

My A/C adapter number is: CT: 592C40EMFUT1JW.
