The product, in the report: Ceiling fan control/switch manufactured by FASCO Industries of Fayetteville, NC.
I have 2 ceiling fan switches manufactured by FASCO Industries that were installed 20+ years ago. Three days ago while turning off one of the ceiling fans I noticed the switch plate screws were extremely hot to the touch. The surrounding wall are was warm as well.
Upon further examination I discovered the switch had overheated internally, causing the surrounding gray cardboard casing to become black. This case was burned through in one area and the label had been burned off. Excessive heat caused this. There was no visible fire. I replaced this swith with a new one from another manufacturer.
I checked the other fan switch and found similar damage, but not as severe. It was burned as well. The label was also burned through in one area leaving some of it still legible. The remaining part # appeared to be”--929 Control”. Above the “UL” symbol is “A238”. Below the symbol is “E13100”, and below that is”6129-0499”. This switch has been replaced as well.
