The product, in the report: Power adapter cord.
I was using the adapter to help charge my laptop. It overheated and melted my battery inside my computer and my charger.

The product, in the report: Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop a/c adapter.
Last year, I bought a new charger for my Compaq Presario, and I noticed that it would get really warm, but I was led to believe that it was not a problem if it didn’t get too hot (this information was not from any computer representative, so I’m not blaming anyone for misinformation). But one day I left my laptop on the cord and walked away to do laundry, and when I came back it was so hot, I am constantly grateful we didn’t end up having a fire. Also, the plastic at the bottom of my laptop melted a little. I realize there was some user error involved, but regardless it should not have gotten so hot! A few days later, I found out that the casing of the cord had also been damaged, so I cut it up and ordered a new charger. The new one works great, and it doesn’t get so hot.
