No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 16, 2025, sent to the company Dec 22, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 9, 2026
The product, in the report: 3 rolls at 250 ft each of Cerrowire 12/2 NM-B (Yellow Jacket) BATCH CODE: 7/30/2025 | at 2150 J5 BTS
During the rough-in electrical phase of a total-loss home reconstruction, a severe manufacturing defect was discovered in Cerrowire 12/2 NM-B made on 7/30/2025. The defect consists of a continuous longitudinal slit (lengthwise cut) in the insulation of the neutral (white) conductor. Hazard Description: Latent Nature: The defect is hidden beneath the outer yellow jacket of the cable. It is not visible to the naked eye during a standard “pull” or installation. Failure Mechanism: When the outer jacket is stripped and the neutral wire is bent or manipulated (as required for box termination), the slit in the insulation “pops” open, exposing the bare copper conductor. Imminent Risk: This creates an immediate risk of electrical arcing and fire. Because the insulation is breached along the entire 750-foot run, the hazard exists behind the walls where it cannot be monitored
