The product, in the report: UL-approved 3-way outlet, GE 1740.
Plugged in a ~15W DVD player to a UL-approved 3-way outlet, GE 1740. This resulted in a dead short between hot and neutral internal to the device. Sparks and smoke until the 15A circuit breaker tripped. I disassembled the unit took pictures and retained it for further inspection, if desired. This is the second time this brand and model has failed for me in this way.
