No incident, no one hurt Made Jan 17, 2017, sent to the company Mar 20, 2017, published by CPSC Apr 3, 2017
The product, in the report: Floor Box Receptacle
We had a Carlon E971FBDIB-2 electric floor box receptacle melt and fuse itself to an extension cord. The receptacle was installed only recently, but purchased years ago when we were doing building repairs.
When I checked to see if I could find a replacement part, I discovered that there was a recall for this Item (recall 07-159). I called the manufacturer January 3, 2017 and was told that the electrician who installed the device should have known about the recall. I don’t blame him. The manufacturer then said the only way to get a replacement would be to have the electrician find his receipt for the device. I’m not going to have him go through the trouble. The real issue is that the manufacturer could not tell me how to know whether if I bought a replacement, It would have the same issue! So, there certainly could be more of these out there that are faulty, but there is no way to know which are, and which aren’t.
