Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Cost Plus World Market Aiden Coffee Table

Cost Plus World Market brand Aiden Coffee Table: this table is a two level coffee table. It is made of a steel frame with mango wood surfaces and has steel casters on each leg. I was in the process of moving the coffee table towards me while sitting on the couch and one of the casters broke off and the table tilted towards me. I had a hot dinner I just warmed up on the table and it slid off the table and onto the ground, nearly missing my legs.

After reviewing the caster that broke off, it appeared that the base plate to which the caster was attached was welded to the leg with only 3 small tack welds. This appears to be a poor design and a safety issue since the table will tilt when the weld breaks and will cause whatever is on the table to fall off and injure someone if there is something hot or sharp on the table or if someone has the feet or toes under the table at the time of weld failure. Perhaps a more robust weld that is along the entire sides of the base plate where it meets the table leg would provide more strength and prevent part failure.
