No one hurt Made Oct 8, 2026, sent to the company Oct 14, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 28, 2026
The product, in the report: West Elm Reeve Mid-Century 30” Round Coffee Table, Marble, Acorn
I am reporting a catastrophic structural failure of a premium West Elm marble coffee table, Order Number [REDACTED], which has created an active, severe safety risk in my home. Under normal, everyday use, the heavy stone slab top has fractured and begun splitting deeply down the middle. The table is structurally compromised. The heavy marble top is no longer entirely self-supporting. The split pieces are held in place solely because they happen to be resting on another surface. If the stone shifts, slides off the frame, or gives way completely, extremely heavy fractured stone will collapse. This product constitutes an immediate crush and laceration hazard. I have an infant baby in the home who crawls. Because coffee tables are at an infant height, if my child pulls up on this table or if the cracked stone shifts slightly under touch, it could collapse directly onto the child, causing severe or catastrophic injury. I contacted West Elm customer service multiple times to report this severe safety and product defect liability. On the first occasion, a live chat agent named [REDACTED] abruptly disconnected and ended the chat session when the issue was presented. Subsequent agents refused to escalate the safety hazard, hiding behind a standard 3-year timeline constraint for returns, completely dismissing the active physical danger the product presents to an infant.

Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 30, 2026, sent to the company Oct 6, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 21, 2026
The product, in the report: West Elm Larson Round Glass Dining Table (48 inches), Acorn finish. The table has a clear, round tempered-glass tabletop supported by a solid rubberwood frame and legs with a water-based Acorn wood finish. The table measures approximately 48 inches in diameter by 30 inches high and is designed as a residential dining table that comfortably seats four people. The tempered-glass tabletop is approximately 0.4 inches thick. West Elm lists the glass top as made in Taiwan and the base as made in Vietnam. The product was sold by West Elm under the Larson collection
I purchased a Larson 48 inch Round Glass Dining Table from West Elm in July 2024. I was away on a business trip and returned home to discover that the tempered-glass tabletop had completely shattered while the home was unoccupied. There was no known impact or unusual temperature event, and fortunately no one was present when it occurred. The glass seems to have exploded, because large pieces of glass was found over 10 feet away from the dining area. West Elm has previously issued a CPSC recall for another tempered-glass dining table because its tops could unexpectedly shatter.

The product, in the report: Product name Jensen Glass Dining Table Brand West Elm Product type Furniture Dining table Purchase date Approx 2020 2021 Retailer West Elm online or store
Product name Jensen Glass Dining Table Brand West Elm Product type Furniture Dining table Purchase date Approx 2020 2021 Retailer West Elm online The glass tabletop of my Jensen dining table spontaneously shattered without impact. This is the same hazard identified in West Elms 2018 recall of this product. The incident created a serious safety risk in my home, particularly because I have a 9-month-old child who frequently crawls under the table. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, but the potential for harm was significant. I purchased this table in approximately 2020-2021 and was never notified that it had been recalled. This raises concerns that recalled products may still be in circulation or that consumers are not being properly informed of ongoing risks.

First aid Made Jul 2, 2025, sent to the company Jul 22, 2025, published by CPSC Aug 5, 2025
The product, in the report: Glass tabletop desk (56”L)
The consumer was sitting at her desk when the glass tabletop shattered spontaneously. Everything that was on the desk, including her computer, fell to the floor. The consumer sustained a few cuts to both of her legs. She treated her injuries at home. The incident is identical to the problem stated in CPSC Recall #18-724, dated 2/13/2018. The product was made in Vietnam. The consumer is extremely concerned that the same exact problem occurred with her table, 3 years after a recall, by this manufacturer. I have emailed and called West Elm. I also submitted a ‘claim’ (not sure what this actually means) to [REDACTED]. I have not yet heard anything back. Note: This product had a safety recall in 2018. This desk was sold to me in 2021 after incidents of this spontaneous shattering glass. Feels irresponsible and so dangerous. The CPSC has this very desk listed on the website.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Jun 24, 2025, sent to the company Jun 27, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 14, 2025
The product, in the report: Wooden extendable dining table with a dark walnut finish and a removable center leaf. Approximate dimensions are 60”-80” long x 39” wide x 30” high. The defect is with the metal hardware used to latch the table segments together.
The metal leaf latching hardware on an extendable dining table has a recurring defect. An adult male was using the product as intended (latching the table). While doing so, a sharp piece of metal from the latch broke off, causing a deep laceration on the user’s thumb, which resulted in significant bleeding. This is the second time this has happened. Approximately one year prior, the other latch on the table failed in the same way, causing a minor cut. The product is now non-functional, as the extension leaf cannot be safely operated. The remaining parts of both broken latches are exposed and sharp like a blade, presenting an ongoing injury risk to the household, which includes two small children.

Our entire tempered glass dining table spontaneously shattered and sent thousands of small and tiny pieces of glass flying throughout our entire house and infiltrated into our furniture and surrounding items causing a majority of our living space to be unsafe. We were not seated at the table at the time fortunately, as we were preparing to sit down for dinner. We did not touch or place anything on the table before the incident.

The product, in the report: West Elm Mid-Century Art Display Coffee Table
The glass top on West Elm’s Mid-Century Art Display Coffee Table bought in 2019 spontaneously shattered and exploded all across our living room. The explosion made a very loud sound but fortunately nobody was near the coffee table when the explosion occurred. Debris were flown up to 10 feet away and the glass shards caused some injuries when trying to clean up the broken glass.
The coffee table was only used indoors and there was no blunt force applied to the glass top at the time of explosion. The glass top spontaneously shattered and exploded on its own.

We bought a heavy wood table from West Elm in 2019. The table has always been the same spot since we bought it. Until recently we tried to move to the table. The table’s body fell apart from the metal base and seems the solid wood table has been always sitting on 4 small screws from the base. The table body with the top is at least 100bls. We have small children in the house that like to go though under tables and small spaces. This table was lucky didn’t fall on them. If it tips over them it would cause serious injuries for my children. Even when we move it that we were afraid of it would fall and break our toes.

The product, in the report: West Elm 34” Mid-Century Art Display Round Coffee Table with Walnut base SKU: 3929742 U.S. Patent Number: 850832 Model Mid-Century Art Display Round Coffee Table
In 2018, I bought a 34” Art Display coffee table from West Elm that features a tempered glass top. In October 2020, two years after purchase, I came home from work to find the glass top spontaneously shattered. After six weeks of email, calls, store visits and online chats, I found a recall page for a similar glass top product that had been recalled about two years ago. Knowing West Elm products are all manufactured in China, my assumption is that they use the same manufacturer. West Elm refused to replace the table or replace the glass. They only offered me 20% discount on another table, and they cannot guarantee the glass defect issue has been resolved. They still sell this product, and while fortunately no one (person, child, pet) was injured, I’ve spent weeks cleaning up microscopic shards of glass all over my living room.

The product, in the report: West Elm Sloan Dining Table 60”- Raw Mango/Glass Item #: 2993892
The product is the “Sloan Dining Table 60” Raw Mango/Glass from West Elm. I bought it in August 2016. In July 2019 the glass top randomly exploded. There were items on the table, but nothing unusual that would cause such a reaction - there was a pile of papers, a napkin holder, salt and pepper shaker, and a book. Nothing hot or cold etc.
We were sitting on the couch and heard a loud explosion sound. We do have the footage as it was captured on our Nest security camera.
The glass top literally exploded into several thousands of pieces flying everywhere, creating glass dust, and glass shards pierced the walls. Thank Gd we were not close enough to sustain injuries but it took many hours to thoroughly clean the area to ensure we got all glass.
