First aid Made Aug 7, 2024, sent to the company Aug 12, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 26, 2024
The product, in the report: Products name on Amazon.com (Overbed Table with Wheels Adjustable Height, Portable Rolling Table with Outlets & USB Ports for Queen Bed, Giant Computer Desk with Tilt Stand); Products Name on companies website (Tribesigns Height Adjustable Overbed Table with Wheels & Charging Station); Color - Deep Grey; CTN Size 195.5x46.5x12.5cm; Dimensions 15.75D x 70.86W x (35.43 43.31 adjustable hieght) (i had it at max height)
WHAT HAPPENED On April 15th, 2024, I ordered the TribeSigns Overbed Table with Tiltboard and Wheels from Amazon.com (even thought the product page on amazon shows it as another company called LITTLE TREE but that isnt the real company name its tribesigns as its shown on the manual and box it comes in..) This was purchased to help with my disability and being stuck in bed a lot of the time so i could get things done and make appointments without added limitations.
On July 25th, 2024, the odd behavior of my table when pushing it forward and backward come to a conclusion of why when the caster wheel that is screwed into the frame broke of the frame and my table fell forward and due to unexpected occurance was slow to process this event quick enough to stop it. This lead to the cup of hot tea on my table to fall over and the liquid landed on my leg burning it, knowing proper emergency care being an eagel scout i got an ice pack on my leg within 15 seconds. Though my hard drive had flown off and now is damaged and all my lifes data is unrepairable. All the other objects on my table remained in good condition thankfully.
Later that night when I clean up myself and the area, I took photos and sent the company an email explaining the issues briefly to the point, and that i need a repalcement of part #9 bc the wheel broke off the frame, they agreeded and i ened up getting a whole new unit (table)
I opened the new sent box and pulled out Part #9 and swaped the broken part of the frame with the new one, put in my csater wheels and 5 days later the wheel broke off the frame but not completely.
I investigated why this was happening and its bc the company is manufactring the core foundation of the frame using 2 spot welds instead of doing a complete weld around the other part that holds the tread for the wheels bolt. (the frame has a predrilled hole at the bottom and then a seperate part with a internal thread is placed inside the whole and then welded to the frame) The other issue is the metal the thread part is made of is so brittle the it break easily under little resistence or pressure which caster wheels will do.
I can tell you for certain when i took a welding class in high school, spot welding was frowned upon, and consider very unsafe so that fact they are using it is just plain scary. They charge extortion pricing for a product that uses extremely cheap probably illegal manufacturing techniques.
TYPE OF PRODUCT USED Table with Wheels
WHO USED PRODCUT Myself
HOW WERE PRODUCTS USED positioned over my bed, and moved forward and backward by pushing it and pulling it gently.
ANY INJURIES THAT DID OR COULD HAVE HAPPENED USING IT I did burn my leg from the hot tea in my cup that fell over bc the broken caster wheels bolt broke off. furthermore, as for injuries that could have happened are far worse, if there was an infant or child in the room and it fell on them if a pet was in the way it could have been injured as this table is large. it very easily could have killed anything like a pet or child.
