  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 7, 2026, sent to the company Jul 10, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 24, 2026

The product, in the report: Hollynyx Table (Set of 3), Item No. T270-13.

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving an Ashley Furniture Hollynyx Table (Set of 3), Item No. T270-13. While I was away from home, the tempered glass top of the table unexpectedly shattered without anyone present or using the product. When I returned, I discovered that the glass had completely exploded into thousands of small fragments that were scattered throughout a large portion of my living room. There was no known impact, accident, misuse, or unusual stress that would explain the failure. The table had been assembled and used under normal household conditions and had remained stationary in the same location.

    The product involved is:

    * Manufacturer: Ashley Furniture Industries * Product Name: Hollynyx Table (Set of 3) * Item Number: T270-13

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the incident, and no injuries occurred. However, had anyone been sitting near the table, walking through the room, or if a child or pet had been present, the shattered glass could have caused serious lacerations or other injuries.

The failure was sudden, catastrophic, and completely unexpected. The widespread distribution of the shattered tempered glass demonstrates the potential hazard this product presents if it fails while people are nearby.

I am requesting that this incident be documented and investigated to determine whether this product presents a broader safety risk to consumers. I have photographs documenting the condition of the table immediately after the incident, the extensive spread of glass fragments throughout the room, and the remaining metal frame. I can also provide proof of purchase and any additional information requested.
